What is Plate Making?

Pad printing machines use either a nylo or steel printing plate to transfer the image which is etched into the surface of the plate.

For short printing runs it is possible for anyone to produce a nylo plate themselves, using a UV exposure cabinet to expose a film positive with their required image under the UV light source. Both water wash (short runs) and solvent wash (longer runs and enclosed ink cup machines) nylo plates can be exposed, developed and ready for use in around 15 minutes. This makes nylo plates ideal for promotional printers, development work or small batch sizes to be printed.

Etched steel printing plates are acid etched usually supplied by the machine manufacturer or their agent. Kaye Dee supply all types of printing plates.
